Pickles the Hobo Clown

For J-Term this year I'm taking a puppet-building class with a man named David Pannabecker, a professional puppet-maker who has experience with members of the Muppet Workshop. Over the course of a week I have created my very own puppet! Here he is in various steps of the building process. His name is Pickles the hobo clown. The basic design was heavily influenced by Red Skelton's Freddy the Freeloader character.

Here's a brief bio:
Pickles is an out-of -work, out-of-luck clown from Hackensack, NJ. He's been married twice and has eight kids, none of which would ever bother to lend him a dime. Pickles has taken up the nomadic life of a hobo, moving from place to place in search of food, shelter, and people desperate enough to hire him for birthday parties.
Despite his misfortune, Pickles remains a prime example of the old saying, “you can take the clown out of the circus, but you can't take the circus out of the clown”. He remains optimistic , and doesn't seem to mind the hobo life. Fresh air, free public transportation (via rail jumping), and more restaurant dumpsters than you can shake a rubber chicken at. A jack-of-all-trades, Pickles specializes in balloon animals, slapstick comedy, sarcasm and dumpster diving. His dream is to someday join Barnum and Bailey as a circus clown/ human cannonball/ part-time popcorn guy... or score a million bucks. Whichever comes first.
